CAUSE (Contractors Against Undocumented Service Employees/Subcontractors) has been formed to act as a voice for construction contractors, subcontractors and employees who work in the local Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania. Our goal as members and supporters is to bring awareness to the general public and building contractors of the problem of illegal/undocumented workers working in the local construction industry.
Our founding member board of CAUSE consists of six hard-working, honest contractors who have worked in the construction industry our entire lives. We have construction experience ranging from fourteen to over thirty five years in our particular fields of expertise.
Our local economy is directly being affected. Subcontractors, employees and contractors who are working in this area illegally have limited accountability for their craft. They are, generally, not contributing significantly to the local economy. Furthermore, they are not paying taxes and helping the local economy in that way. Local, working craftsmen who maintain proper working status and liability insurance are taking substantial wage decreases and some are losing their jobs because of the direct impact of illegal/undocumented workers in the Susquehanna Valley. People not working or earning less inhibits growth within the local economy. Lastly, contractors and builders who hire illegal/undocumented workers are directly contributing to this problem.
Honest: We will be open and honest in all forms of communication both among members and to the public, media, colleagues and associates.
Focused: Our aim is not an attack directly against the illegal/undocumented workers, but primarily we will focus on the individuals both hiring them and exploiting them.
Direct: While we will focus on the individuals hiring illegal/undocumented workers, we will do so respectfully and tactfully. We will ALWAYS confront the individual/group personally first.
Fair: We aim to level the playing field for all tradesmen and builders working in the area. This will happen if we can let the market work without certain builders and contractors not maintaining an unfair advantage by hiring individuals who do not have to pay taxes, insurance, workman's comp, medical insurance, etc. to complete their jobs.
While we are not non-profit, we will be using our funds to promote the CAUSE group mission statement and name. As funds come in, our activity will increase. As a member, you will be a part of a movement that is working to improve our local economy.
